Audience Profile

Our ideal demographic is a man or woman who is already an avid fan of film. This person would know the conventions of horror and would be well versed in the tropes that apply to each sub-genre/grouping and would be a frequent viewer of horror movies. We image that he or she would be 30+ as they would ideally have experience of parenthood- although this is not necessarily vital for the film to have its full effect. We don’t believe that many people under the age of 18 would be the target audience as they don’t have the life experiences to access the full horror, based on the popularity of such films as Paranormal Activity to a younger demographic- unless said person is a fan of horror. The socio-economic grade would be ABC1 however there is a wide range of overlap to the C2DE range; there are no direct mentions or indicators of class or social difference. This definitely impacted the way we went about making our film. The aim we wanted our film to achieve was that nobody (characters or otherwise) is judged in anyway. By the end of the film, we wanted the audience to be in the position where they realised that the only way they could judge the characters were by their parental love. This is a criteria that isn’t mutually exclusive to just the upper class, or just the lower class, so means that the moral of our film isn’t accessible only to a certain NRS social grade.

They have an appreciation for the behind the scenes workings of film production. They will watch of all genres of film, and like to keep broad horizons, but do prefer well made cinema. They also are a fan of classic horror films, but also like discovering new, unique films that could be classified as partly horror (A Field in England – Ben Wheatley - 2013).  They are interested in all types of media and literature, and care about their image.

They are most likely married with children, or at least in a relationship with children, and happily so. As mentioned, one their favourite past times is film, they are a keen movie-goer, and are someone who believes in the power of cinema in its psychical form. Alongside this is their love of music. Their taste is eclectic and varied, with a strong belief in, and vast collections, of vinyl, tapes and other dying our music forms. They want to appreciate and preserve the past, whilst also partaking in the future. This is representative through their fashion- they normally wear expressive clothing, and stay true to their chosen style. Often, they will link their fashion choices to their other interests, e.g. fashion blogs/magazines, or music interests, for example mod style clothing. They are very appreciative of modern history via fashion. Live music and comedy is also something they are passionate about, and they are incredibly good at being part of a ‘tribe’ of people who they share a passion for a music genre with, but can also stay respectful to other people and their opinions and music taste.
